Meet Roxanne

Originally from the small town of Holywood in Northern Ireland, Roxanne has spent the past decade living and working in Hong Kong. She is the mother of three young children, an early childhood teacher and holistic astrologer.

After studying Religion and Philosophy at University, Roxanne moved to Hong Kong and began her training in Steiner Waldorf education. She now lives on Lamma Island where she maintains a deep connection to nature and the elements through open water swimming, forest walks, and meditation.

“Growing up I used to read the sun sign horoscopes printed in magazine and newspapers. As a Leo sun I always felt a certain pride in my creativity and ability to lead. However, there was something missing. These Leo qualities, the extrovert, the performer, the attention seeker... were only part of my story. There was another side to me too, many other sides, that were not covered in the horoscopes I was reading. So, I let it go, a nice idea but something that I didn't really believe in.

Fast forward to my late 20's when I birthed my first baby girl, a Libra. Then, 2 years later I birthed another baby girl, also a Libra. 2 children with personalities so different that this astrology stuff must be complete nonsense, right?

During this time, I also retrained as a Waldorf Early Childhood teacher and had been working with the four temperaments Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic and Melancholic, which relate to the elements Fire, Air, Earth and Water, for a few years when I watched an interview with Debra Silverman in which she discussed her book 'The missing Element'. I was interested to discover how the distribution of the planets in a person's chart contribute to a person's personality type and temperament. Intrigued, I pulled up the charts of myself and my children to discover that one has a grand trine in Earth whilst the other has a concentration of planets in Libra, an air sign. As for myself, my chart showed a grand trine in fire but with a moon in Aquarius and Gemini rising I was able to identify with other facets of my personality that the sun sign horoscopes of the past had missed. I was hooked and immediately signed up for Debra's astrology school.

As I delved deeper, I found that the work I had been doing as a Waldorf teacher, working with seven-year phases of development linked very closely with Saturn cycles in astrology and the healing work that I had been carrying out through exposure to the natural elements supported what I could see written in my chart. I could see how having a greater understanding of this could help me support and understand my family and am keen to share my knowledge with other people and families in need.”
